We held special RSC “focus group” last night on “The OSCE Minsk Group: Assessing Karabakh Peace Process,” with lively interactive discussion. The “Focus Group” featured an analysis of the current state of the peace process and a look at the history of the OSCE mediation of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, with a number of participants and observers from the Embassies of Brazil, France, Germany and Switzerland, and the UNHCR. Some of the most active participants included Satenik Baghdasaryan, Ester Sahakyan, Rima Kharatyan, Nuard Minasian, Hayk Mamijanyan, Linn Nettelvik and others. Similar to our previous RSC ‘focus group” sessions, the objective is to “think out of the box” and conduct an interactive assessment of various issues of critical importance for Armenia. Our focus group series is based on a Western-style discussion, with an emphasis on creative and critical analysis featuring different, and deviant, non-conformist ideas capable of challenging the narrative without limit or restraint. And as background, in order to fulfill our role and responsibility as an independent “think tank” in Yerevan, the Regional Studies Center (RSC) priorities the need for education and critical thinking. In line with that goal, we have been conducting a unique, certificate-based professional training program, known as the RSC “Expert School,” since 2010. Based on an academic calendar (January-May), the program seeks to provide a unique educational opportunity in Armenia by offering a series of innovative and interactive workshops, simulation exercises, such as our regular “war game” role play exercises, and lectures and debates.
