We human beings are such strange competitive animals. All week I have watched pilots literally risk their lives to get a little further along the course, flying in places they would normally never dream, and all for what? Nothing more than a validation that they are one place better than the pilot before them. This phenomenon is the same at every paragliding race, and I cannot say that I have been immune to it. It makes me think of the game that the Aztecs played where the winning team were sacraficed. Maybe we should try that. :)
