We just got back from a few days in a cabin in southern Illinois. We were just a few minutes away from SIU Carbondale, but so isolated we didnt have, or need, curtains! Deer wandered in the yard and other wildlife as well. Nan walked my ass off, but Giant City state park was so beautiful and empty. The dogs had a great time and we even found a vegetarian restaurant and bakery! There was an old hippie city, Cobden, that had a little Mexican place where the pork melted in your mouth, Im not a vegetarian. I complimented the owner who said it was her mothers recepie. Although my parents lived in southern Illinois, they moved there when I came to Columbia. It has always felt like a combination of going home and escaping.
