We live in a world of exciting and infinite possibilities. A world that offers us a never ending variety that delights us but often ends up causes more pain than pleasure. Let’s consider a situation where you are in a Department store of a large shopping Mall with the intention of purchasing a formal grey trouser. The shop person is most helpful and points to the racks where the grey trousers are displayed. Now, while searching for your trouser a relatively simple decision gradually becomes complicated. You find that you need to decide on your fit (slim, regular, comfort), your size (a combination of waist size and inseam length), and the fabric (cotton, wool, blends) all from a variety of well-known brands. To complicate the selection there are a wide array of grey shades on display. While these numerous combinations might delight a mathematician, you find the selection process time consuming and tiring. Despite all your efforts you cannot find the trouser of your choice and even consider visiting another Department store but the thought of repeating the process again makes you feel terrible and you contemplate other options. You recollect your friend’s suggestion that you visit his tailor and make a bespoke trouser. You compare the opportunity costs of compromising by picking your trouser off a rack as against numerous visits to a tailor for a custom piece. What would you select? It might seem funny but the process of searching for your dream career mirrors purchasing a trouser that fits you perfectly. In today’s world we have the advantage of selecting from a plethora of attractive career choices, which paradoxically is the biggest challenge to career selection!
