We lost a dear friend of Eritrea, and an ardent advocate of the oppressed in Africa. Dr. Martin Hill, a former researcher for Amnesty International, and a Board of Director for Human Rights Concern – Eritrea, passed away on Friday 9 January 2015., at 3:00 a.m, surrounded by his family. Martin wrked for over 32 years at the Amnesty Secretariat office in London, as a researcher and a campaigner in the human rights field. Eritrea was one of the countries he covered. I worked closely with Martin and learned a lot from his vast experience in the human rights field. He was a dear friend and my mentor. Martins rare qualities will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. Elsa Chyrum Pictures: Martin Hill, Elsa Chyrum and Hassan Shire, at Martins home on 21 December 2013. He was a dear friend to both of us and he was the one who introduced us many year ago. We were both invited to have lunch with him and his family. The second picture was taken at the conference held at the University of London, on 31 May 2013 to discuss the human rights situation in Eritrea and North Korea.
