We men are deplorable, dependent creatures. But compared with these women, every one of us is king, for he stands more or less on his own two feet, not constantly waiting for something outside of himself to cling to. They, however, always wait for someone to come along who will use them as he sees fit. If this does not happen, they simply fall to pieces. - Albert Einstein Very few great men out there were really great. For example, its widely speculated that Einsteins wife made great and significant contributions to the theory of relativity and he just tossed her to the side when he left her for his cousin. Rosalind Franklin discovered the double helix structure in DNA, but Watson and Crick get credit for her work to this day. Have you ever heard of Cecilia Payne? One of the greatest scientists and astronomers of all time, she discovered what the stars are made of and figured out that hydrogen was the most common element in the universe, but I didnt read about her even one time in school. In fact, my whole integrated chemistry and physics course didnt name one single woman. It sometimes mentioned that the men had wives (and some of those wives contributed to their work greatly), but not one name was given. The most interesting thing to me about the silencing of womens accomplishments through history is that if you look for it, it is SO obvious. They dont teach it to you, but information about incredible women is out there. I discovered Cecilia Payne after getting frustrated that women werent in my course at all. All these powerful men are held up as heroes and saints, but they actively belittled my entire gender and no one says anything about it. Our history courses are flawed the way we teach them. We continue the legacy of silence covering the wrongs done to women. Well, folks, lets learn. Lets talk. The only reason we know so little is because we allow ourselves the ignorance.
