Born in 1918 to Jennie and Samuel Bernstein in Lawrence, Massachusetts, Bernstein would continue on to receive acclaim as a composer, conductor, educator and pianist. Bernsteins fame derives from his breakthrough performance as replacement conductor for the New York Philharmonic. Following his discovery, Bernstein rose to prominence through his long tenure as music director of the New York Philharmonic, his conducting of the worlds top orchestras, his numerous televised lectures, and from his music for #WestSideStory, #WonderfulTown, #OnTheTown and #Mass. Among the first #American-born and trained conductors to achieve international success, he is widely considered one of the greatest conductors of the twentieth century.
