We need 2 more votes and the amendment will pass. You got a night, a day and a night. Several perfectly good hours. Now get the hell out of here and get em! Yes. But how? ..... Buzzards guts, man. I am the President of the United States of America, clothed in IMMENSE POWER! You WILL procure me these votes. Watched Lincoln again, hadnt seen it since 2012. Love this movie! The only reason Id rather Spielberg made Lincoln into an HBO mini series is so wed get a few more hours of Daniel Day Lewis in this character. Its such an enormous cast that he gets a shockingly small amount of screen time compared to other films hes been in. But he just dominates every frame. Its the kind of portrayal of an historical figure that will be forever tied to the actor. I cant look at the words of the Gettysburg address without hearing DDLs voice saying them aloud. And as a fan of Westerns and just films set in the 1800s, I love this movie. Weve seen war films, action films, comedies, crime films, dramas, but I cant recall ever seeing a political film dealing with what the White House was doing in that period. And I found it fascinating seeing the political process of D.C. in that time. Having gone through all of Spielbergs films now, this one stands as another great one. Even better when watching it after Amistad, which this film echoes a bit. This is a Spielberg film where I forgot it was a Spielberg film at several points. The script and the actors are what take center stage in Lincoln, not any film making aesthetic. I rarely mention costume design, but it stands out here. I love the use of the color black in all the mens costumes in the film. And Mary Todd Lincolns costumes are great, too, as is Sally Field herself. What is it about First Ladies on film? Theyre ALWAYS such great characters and tend to be great performances. I put Lincoln on as a background film while I was doing something else. But I kept stopping to watch the film rather than just let it play. Finally I just sat down and watched it on its own. Couldnt look away. :) Lincolns a terrific film.
