We need to OUT- INNOVATE, to OUT- EDUCATE, and to OUT- BUILD the rest of the World” to restore our economy, was the President’s statement in his “State of the Union address”. --- And the famous NY-Times journalist Tom Friedman also said: --- “ITS’ INNOVATE OR ELSE.”--- Will anyone have understood this demand? Very unlikely, because of --- evolutionaryspirituality.wikia/wiki/Individuation_for_Evolution In another paper I am quoting seven famous CEOs who are certainly good men, but will these “few good men” ever do anything to help their country. At this time they haven’t even hinted at a remedy, but have all been preaching that the main reason for the collapse of our economy is the FATAL problem of a HUGE Foreign Trade Deficit. We can’t manufacture “trade goods” for the World anymore, simply because wages for workers and engineers are several times lower in other countries. “Outsourcing” will soon have "deindustrialized" our Nation. And there is no remedy for this if we are just looking for the conventional solutions as we are doing now by relying on the century’s old, outdated theory of Adam Smith, (“The Wealth of Nations” 1766), with its “Invisible hands”. Since his theory has worked well for centuries it became the standard in business schools in the US. Ironically, it is just this theory which causes the “deindustrialization” of our nation now. The term “Invisible hands” refers to a method by which the “business community” itself initiates and controls economic growth, driven by their own motives which are “maximizing profits” and a “strong bottom-line”. (Some say it’s a euphemism for Greed and grabbing Power.) It is a rare CEO or stockholder who also has “job-creation” as part of his motives. “Wages” for jobs have always been seen as just a necessary evil while making profits. However, in today’s Global economy wage differences between nations are so substantial that a US business, to be competitive, needs to “outsource” which then eliminates existing jobs and ends job creation. This has been profitable for leaders of business, increasing the number of millionaires substantially, but made the Labor Unions powerless. Government is not to interfere here according to Adam Smith, whose economy is like cans of “Instant Fish” (the Feds just add the water). The universality of this old theory has now been disproved by Prof. Joseph Stiglitz who earned a Nobel Prize for his work, but he is being ignored here in the US, (not so in other countries!) My “recovery plan” for our Nation is based on the discovery of “Disruptive technologies” by Harvard Prof. C.M. Christensen; The Innovators Dilemma”; it’s a difficult subject! (He told me that in his graduating class of 100 students only two could recognize a new disruptive technology.) For more than 13 years now I have been working intensely on the goal stated in the “State of the Union address” above. The only part new to me was the “elegant phrasing” by the speechwriter. We need NEW and “CREATIVE” solutions, like the “Skunk-Works” of the past, to create COST/PERFORMANCE breakthroughs with “Disruptive /Enabling innovations” to manufacture price worthy “trade-goods” for the Global markets. None of the present multi-Billion dollar Keynesian spending programs are doing this; instead we are borrowing even more Billions just to generate jobs in the non-trade-able sectors of the economy, such as work on roads and bridges etc. which generates no trade-goods. --- In a healthy economy this might be “praiseworthy”, but now it just makes the situation worse by creating an illusion of recovery (lasting only to the next election.) We need to out-innovate the rest of the World to pay back the borrowed Billions and put our people back to work again. Can it be done? --- Yes, I can prove it, if only for a single line of products, mind you, I am just ONE engineer. This first product should be marketed as quickly as possible as a PROVE of CONCEPT. Is it doable? YES, because I already worked on it for “10 engineering man-years”. It’s my $1.5 Mil donation, (based on my previous salary) Additional help needed for starting production are some hardware and software engineers for a few months. The product will have a “two orders of magnitude” cost advantage and can be manufactures with $30 hourly wages in the U.S., but sold even on the Chinese market. This single product alone could provide us with a BILLION dollars in foreign sales, but more importantly, it would bring hundreds of previously suppressed ideas from other creative engineers out into the open. This will highlight the difference between Prof. C.M. Christensen’s observations about CEOs of industry suppressing “Disruptive” ideas versus a “mind change” to quickly implement these and getting Millions of our citizens back to work again. The Prove of Concept projects should be repeated many times. We need to “forcefully convince” our Business Leaders to embrace Disruptive/Enabling innovations instead of suppressing them. --- Putting a “famous CEO” in charge of the US economy is like “putting a fox in charge of the hen house”. It’s a death-sentence for our country. - ---------------Are you asking me Mr. CEO, “How can you expect thousand of engineers to come up with more of your “Disruptive/ Enabling” innovations? --- I don’t, because these innovations already exist, but are being suppressed by CEOs. Also, I myself have 11 patens, mostly of this “Disruptive/Enabling” kind; and while I only have average engineering abilities, my inventions all worked and several that went into large scale production proved to be extremely reliable in the field. This reliability and my designs being always on schedule were appreciated by management. The much lower cost for my “disruptive/ enabling” designs was not. (Less profits for a Tele-com monopoly) About answering your “question”?
