“We need to do more to help people who are victimized by crime, not do less.” Bryan Stevenson, founder and Executive Director of the Equal Justice Initiative and a professor at the New York University School of Law, sheds light upon the issue that more black males have been incarcerated than any other racial group in the justice system. Through this TED talk, Stevenson provides a candid and insightful outlook on disproportionate minority contact in the juvenile justice system from his experiences working with children of color. In fact, the amount of racial injustice has amassed to such a degree that some kids get arrested because of who they are, not because of what they do. Over 70% of the children and youth arrested are black or Latino. Of those sentenced to incarceration, 80% are black or Latino. There is a problem and it must be fixed not by turning a blind eye, but by taking action. This kind of injustice in New York State cannot go on any longer—help us create change by supporting the Raise the Age campaign. ted/talks/bryan_stevenson_we_need_to_talk_about_an_injustice.html
