We need to open our eyes. This country was founded on the principal that the government cannot take you away indefinitely for perceived threats. The British government performed this warcrime frequently against American colonists; after the Revolution this basic tenet was added to our constitution to protect us from future tyranny. Its a right, folks, that you cannot be stolen from your family and held away without trial. That is a basic human right that you are supposed to be guaranteed along with your American citizenship. Lets remember that the SCOTUS has already announced that the privacy violations of the NSA have not stopped or helped predict any terrorist plots; indeed, you can probably think of many that were brought to fruition or narrowly stopped by a quick-thinking individual. Privacy invasions do not accurately predict or repel terrorist acts, so why are they still spying on the American populace? Seems like the fuel for the NDAA vehicle to me, by way of conjecture. We have a larger prison population than any industrialized nation. There are many politicians in power today that make massive amounts of money from the continuation of that system. If they make that money off of the current prison populace, what if the populace was expanded? Losing rights is a slippery slope. First to go was your right to privacy. Next is your right to not be held indefinitely without cause or trial - this is the NDAA. And already, those in power have made statements like this: The first amendment is meant for those who are educated. Ignorant people shouldnt be allowed to freely speak defamy against the government. What right would that suggest imposition upon? I hope Im a crazy conspiracy theorist.
