We need to start framing radical Islam of the sort practiced by ISIS as an ideology not just a religion. Word choice matters. When you use the term religion in America, it brings with it the connotation of required tolerance. But radical Islam of the sort practiced by ISIS is an ideology that is premised on hating women, on hating gays, on hating non-believers of radical Islam, on hating freedom, and with the stated goal of eradicating all of those people from this earth, including us. It is a murderous ideology that is antithetical to everything we should stand for. We won the Cold War because we won the ideological fight against Communism. We recognized it was a war against an ideology. But some want to say this is a war about religion. I recognize this ideology is masked in religious doctrine; however, I am just arguing for a subtle semantics change in how we debate ISIS or think about it. I am not talking about peaceful moderate Muslims in this post at all (I am talking about ISIS form of radicalism). What I am saying here, is that we are at war with an ideology, a radical one that we must not allow to spread. #ISIS
