To Our Valued Customers: As you may have noticed, there is a sign on our fence announcing a public hearing on our request to rezone our property to allow us to continue providing the high quality doggie day care services we have provided for your pets. While the property has been used for boarding pets with outdoor play areas for many years before we purchased the property, the zoning for the property (BU-1) does not provide Several months ago, the owner of the small apartment complex near Island Pet Resort, which is the only residential building on the block, filed a complaint against Island Pet Resort alleging the zoning for the property did not allow for outdoor play areas. While there is a similar pet care business across the street from Island Pet Resort, the property at that location has a different zoning code (BU-2) that allows for The County has agreed to defer holding a hearing on the complaint in order to allow Island Pet Resort to request rezoning of the property. On Monday, September 9, at 3:00 pm, the Brevard County Planning and Zoning Board will be conducting a hearing on this request. We anticipate the owner of the apartment complex or his/her representative will speak at the hearing and complain that the residents are disturbed by the “constant barking” of the dogs under our care, particularly during the evening hours. As you know, we have attendants with your pets at all times when they are outside. Further, we do not keep dogs outside after 6:00 pm. To the extent there is any “constant barking” we have noted that the barking is coming from the kennel across the street. A key part of persuading the County to rezone our property will be the support of our customers. We would appreciate it if you could attend the hearing to speak on behalf of Island Pet Resort. If you cannot attend, please send us a letter or email supporting our rezoning application. We look forward to providing high quality pet day care to the Merritt Island Community. Once our rezoning application is approved, we plan to make the following improvements to Island Pet Resort: 1. enlarge outdoor play area located in the rear of the building; 2. install small pool for dogs; 3. perform dog shows; 4. restore building on 35 N. Grove Street and use the building for grooming and offices; and 5. add kennel space. Island Pet Resort & Spa needs your support at the upcoming public hearing set for Monday, September at 3:00 pm. This public hearing will be held at the Brevard County Government Center, 2725 Judge Fran Jamieson Way, Building C, Viera, Florida. Pets and pet owners have been receiving kennel, boarding and grooming services at this location for over a decade. Your support at this hearing will most certainly contribute towards the continued success and quality of care your pets receive at Island Pet Resort & Spa. Island Pet Resort & Spa is aware of opposition for the approval of the requested rezoning from a nearby condo building. Your support will make a difference and will impact the votes of the board members and county commissioners.
