We often see in the news concerns about how fracking might be harmful to the environment. To be honest, if it isnt done properly, it can be, but thats more the exception than the rule (in our opinion). The two places where most potential issues arise is when the driller doesnt line the well properly (the casing doesnt extend far enough below the water table or the casing is compromised in some way) or when the pit that is supposed to contain the residual fracking liquid allows some of that liquid to seep into the ground. Why do we bring this up and what does this have to do with money/finance?? Well, has anyone noticed what has been happening to the price of gas/oil recently? Prices have been coming down because, in part, the U.S. is producing more oil (fracking has been a big part of this) and that has allowed people to spend less on gas. When people spend less on gas, they have options as to what they do with the cash left in their pocket. The holidays are rapidly approaching, so what do you think that many people will do with the extra cash?? We believe that they might spend it and that can lead to more companies making more profit (and that can have a positive impact on the stock market). We cant predict the future, but we believe that, in the long run, if you follow the data, good things can come!
