We often see reflections of culture and politics in US sports polling. For example, ESPN asks which team (Baylor or Ohio State) should be number 3 in the BCS standings. Notice that the South and central States all say Baylor - a Christian university in Texas - while the Northeast and the Great Lakes region (colonised in part by people from the Northeast) say Ohio State.
