We often tell people that our lawyers are pre-screened. And a lot - TopicsExpress

We often tell people that our lawyers are pre-screened. And a lot of folks are NOT impressed with that. The term is seen so often, its meaning and potency has been eroded such that people dont lend it much credence any more. Lets restate this pre-screened idea in practical terms. We had a potential client call today who wanted a hungry attorney who was so desperate for cash, that s/he would take his case for free. Well, you get what you pay for. You want to hire an untested attorney to take your case, simply because he or she is free? So the guy or gal takes your case on a contingency. If you win, you pay them (typically) say 30% of the amount awarded to you. If you lose, you pay nothing. This is a big deal with an untested lawyer who hasnt been pre-screened by a bar-sponsored lawyer referral service like ours? You lose, you pay nothing? What have you gained? We think clients who use our Service want their best chance at winning their case. They dont want to roll the dice, pick any old attorney, and hope for the best. Our attorneys must apply to become members. We require them to belong to the Colorado Bar Association (which the State of Colorado doesnt) AND one of our eight local sponsoring bar associations (which the State of Colorado doesnt), which a lot of people think is a testament to their commitment to maintaining their public image as ethical and responsible individuals. MLRS requires its member attorneys to carry legal malpractice insurance. The State of Colorado does NOT require an attorney carry this, in order to be licensed to practice. MLRS not only prescreens its attorneys to confirm their memberships, their possession of insurance, their status with the Colorado Supreme Court (which licenses all attorneys in the state) and their bar associations...we monitor them throughout the term of their membership. Should one of our members screw up, we will terminate their membership. So you can be assured that NONE of our attorneys are like that hungry and desperate attorney who will take any case just for the long shot at making some money. Some of our members have been with us a decade or more. We know our attorneys, because they stay with us year after year, and were comfortable vouching for them because they know what theyre doing and they do it well. When you want to talk with an attorney in the Colorado Front Range, give MLRS a call at 303-831-8000. Check out our website at: mlrsonline.org/
