We ran into a narc from a CL ad to purchase a used futon. Strangest creepiest guy ever. All we wanted to look at was a futon. We met him at a huge rich house. He took us around back to a basement apartment where it was obvious someone was living, camping out... the kitchenette was full of dirty dishes and he had expensive stuff sitting in boxes all over that he tried to sell us: like a home theatre sound system. He wouldnt open the box to let us see it though: instead he pulled up a store sales page and said it was just like that- an 800$ system. He insisted we look at his epensive dining room set, a hutch, and all sorts of crap we didnt want bc I told him we were furnishing our sons new home. We kept trying to redirect him back to the futon. He kept trying to get us to buy everything crazy- the heavy ornate dining set, an antique hutch, a heavy ornate buffet, foot/leg massager from brookstone.. He said they were moving. Every piece I asked about after he said its all for sale- he would say NO--gotta ck with the wife. There was a brandnew kitchen aid mixer just kinda piled in to the kitchen. So we finally settled on us picking a few tuings out and he insisted on us buying more! I said, Look: we only have 800$ to spend for furnishings and we really just wanted the futon at 175$. He wouldnt let us do it!! He kept tryong to get us to pik out more of his crap saying we couldnt get this good a deal any where else. When I said we are really intent on buying our son a couch he said well here hold on: let me pull obe up: then he pulled up this picture of a fancy white living room leatjer set and he said it was his mother in laws but he could sell it to us and to just give him the money for it. . He made us late for signing our realtor papers bc he wouldnt let us leave. I had to firmly say: We ARE LEAVING NOW. WE ARE LATE. We arent giving you ANY money rt now: we want to think about this. We werent half a mile away and the texts began. He kept asking for me to email him what i thot the prices should be and it would be ok: he would accept the price. Just come back. Bring the money he will accept it! This guy sent me over 50 texts trying to get us back into the house to make the purchase. In between I kept telling him we had changed our minds and wanted nothing to do with it. I even told him he was scary and the situation seemed very strange and to just leave me alone: we were walking away from doing any dealings with him. He then of course got very insulting and abusive implying i had mental issues etc and couldnt recognize when someone was just trying to be nice and helpful. I texted maybe a total of 4 times saying done, leave me alone. He ignored all of those. His last txt came in around 8:30pm. I then blocked the number I think. What the heck ? Was he the no good brother the rich ppl stashed in the basement? Trouble w/the IRS or some bad people? Was HE bad people? Was he a druggie needing to sell off stuff for a fix?? He claimed to have a great job and that his family was very wealthy etc. We are so glad to be away from him. Our son us relocating to the area was why we were looking at craigslist ads to begin with... Thoughts pls??
