We ran through the Indus Valley and we touched the Aryans. We wrote pages and pages of impositions (and some!) that drilled into us all we needed to know about the Ashoka Pillar, the Sanchi Stupa, Buddhism, Jainism, the different temple architecture styles, our Sovereign, Socialist, Secular, Democratic, Republic and what not!!(our apologies for not remembering much of that 20 years on – it’s certainly not a reflection of your teaching). We probably (pretty sure of that!) drove you to exasperation – you stilled us in to silence by the simple rapping of your ring on your table. Some of us most certainly annoyed you by picking on your daughter and pulling her pigtails :) We cried, “Molly Miss, oh! Molly Miss, NO! History and Civics teach us no more!!” Through it all, you never once wavered in your devotion and dedication to us, your students and to your profession. You pushed us, cajoled us, scolded us, moulded us. You were History teacher to many of us, class teacher to a lucky few of us. You showed us grace and compassion, understanding and patience, persistence and dedication. Anyone who passed through your class will attest to the fact that you influenced them. And now, at this very moment, as you prepare for your final journey, we salute you and pay tribute to you. We remember you with fondest memories. We thank God that we had the chance to know you. We thank God that you are no longer in a place of pain, but our hearts go out to your family as they have to continue their journey of life without you. Vineetha Sam, Vishal, know this – you are not alone in your grief. Your mother shaped not just yours, but so many of our lives. We pray for peace for you, Sam Sir and your families, in this time of grief. MOLLY MISS, YOU WILL BE MISSED. Rest in peace, safe in the arms of Jesus.
