We received this tip form a resident and would like to pass it on. It is a great tip for everyone. While this particular scam is not new, it it’s good to bring it back up. These types of scams are not isolated to our county. It is a nationwide issue that is very difficult to enforce. You should never conduct business with someone who cold calls you. It’s just not a safe practice. If you do business with an organizations, it is a good practice to research the company first. If you ever have any questions, do not hesitate to contact us. ____________________________ I would like you to inform the residents of Humphreys County that there has been a scam phone call going around here lately. The caller identifies themselves as Windows or Microsoft computer tech and that your computer is downloading malicious spyware and they need to gain access to your computer to fix the problem before it is too late. I never let it get as far as them telling me that before I hang up but my Father in law got so far as a person wanting his credit card information which he did not give them. People need to know, especially the elderly who arent as tech savvy and might believe them and give out their information because the people scare them into it.
