We recently opened a new business here in Oklahoma City. We selected Oklahoma City because we believe this city is certainly on the rise. We did our research and OKC came out on top on almost every category. But even with all of those positive economic indicators, a lot of people questioned our decision. This weekend I saw a wonderful profile about OKC on CNN, it not only spoke about what they are doing right economically, but really it spoke about the people - the wonderful residents that make up this great city. The recent tornados in Moore and Reno put that notion in full display, ordinary people doing extra-ordinary things to pull this community together. One of these people is our gallery assistant, Travis. He just graduated college, bought a house and is getting married next month. He certainly has lot of things on his plate. After the tornado, Travis decided to do something to help. He used his artistic talent and designed a t-shirt, he posted his design on his Facebook page and before you knew it, he sold over 100 t-shirts and to date he has raised $2,560 that will be donated to the red cross to help tornado victims. This is the spirit that I’m talking about. It’s always challenging and frankly risky opening a new business, especially an art gallery here in OKC…but I know it will work out because of the inspiration we’re getting from the citizen’s of OKC and people like Travis. I’m very proud to call this place home.
