We recently paid a visit to the Applied Technology High School in Abu Dhabi. 1st. Lt. Ibrahim Hassan, Lt. Sultan Al Kaabi, Warrant Officer Fatma Al Battashi and Cindy Daoud from the MoI-CPC team spent time with a group of 90 students from the #school to discuss the #risks and threats associated with modern #technology. The officers presented an overall explanation of what the MoI-CPC does to protect society and then focused on the importance of protecting tablets and smartphones with personal passcodes to prevent other people from abusing their devices. One of our officers explained that “when a fire is burning, you know not to touch it for risk of getting burnt. However, if you touch a hot spoon you can suffer the consequences when it’s too late. The same thing can happen when you offer too much personal information online, as you cannot guarantee who will see and use what you’ve posted.” Students were surprised to learn that what was posted from their social media accounts whether from a computer or their personal devices could be saved and used by anybody. No matter their age, our officers reminded them that they are responsible for their actions and at the same, the MoI-CPC will continue to work for all of their protection. After explaining the MoI-CPC’s successful #Hemayati application for smartphones, our officers asked the 90 students to research cases of technology abuses in the #UAE for their homework to increase their awareness of such risks. Remember; staying safe is important online as much as in your day-to-day lives.
