We recently read Good Omens, in which the captain of a cruise ship consults the book of International Maritime Codes for the appropriate way to communicate the unexpected situation that has had them run aground. After looking for a bit, he finds the right one: XXXV QVVX, Have found lost continent of Atlantis. High Priest has just won quoits contest. I am not a captain and not familiar with International Maritime Codes, so I chuckled a bit but *assumed* that particular code was a bit of artistic license on the part of Terry Pratchett. However, in the next year or two, the U.S. will use ICD-10, a newer version of the International Classification of Diseases, Clinical Modification, and Procedure Coding System. When the doctors of the passengers on such a voyage file medical insurance claims for treatment of their injuries, how will they code them? I didnt find anything about Atlantis, but there are entries like V95.42XA, Forced landing of spacecraft injuring occupant, initial encounter.
