We regret to inform you we killed your boys Day to day killings - TopicsExpress

We regret to inform you we killed your boys Day to day killings is not new to Kashmir. Since the start of late 80’s, coffins of dead martyrs had started to arrive in Kashmir, mostly young and educated. It has continued till date. People get killed, rather are killed. A probe is ordered – never to find anyone guilty. Few people at the helm regret. Life goes on. In a vicious cycle of death and death only, it’s the Kashmiris who die. Yesterday, on 3rd of November, four friends were travelling in a car through Budgam area of Central Kashmir. The road dissects many Indian Army check points on the way. At one check point, the car was asked to stop by the Army. It didn’t. In next few minutes, the car these four friends were travelling in was pierced with almost fifty bullets. Two dead, two critically wounded. Imagine you are travelling with your friends in a car and on the way you get killed just for not stopping at an Army check point. Your mother who has been waiting all day for your return welcomes your blood smeared coffin late in the night. You father carries your coffin on his shoulder thinking why he didn’t die at your place. Your friends, who waited for the next dawn so that they can continue their daily meets with you now stare at your coffin, scream like mad and shout to their fullest. This has been a daily affair in Kashmir. In utter shame, Indian Army issued a statement in which they said that “[…] this is very unfortunate and we regret the loss of lives.” These incidents are no surprise for Kashmiris. Last year also, two boys were killed in Bandipora by Indian Army. A probe was ordered. Nothing happened. The infamous Pathribal killings are an example. Or for that matter the killing in Bomai, Sopore. They kill and we die. Nothing else happens. But yes, if something remains, Indian Media takes its role. Yesterday when the news broke out of these killings, social media in Kashmir was abuzz with what had happened. As usual nobody was clear what had happened where. Rumors started to fly in. But within minutes it was clear that two teenagers were shot dead by Indian Army in Budgam. The local media had already reported the death of two civilians but for ANI and PTI, the news was something else. Despite reporting the truth, PTI and ANI, India’s leading news wire agencies said that ‘two soldiers were killed in a terrorist attack in Budgam’. Times of India, India’s leading daily reported same. By this shameless incident, it not only proved how Indian media blankets the truth in Kashmir but also how Indian Media molds the truth in their favor. For Indian Media, it has always been a duty to blanket Indian Army’s atrocities in Kashmir. The same media which was on a PR exercise for Indian Army during Kashmir floods turned their eyes away yesterday. But this is what they have been doing. This is what they’ll do.
