We share anywhere from 94 to 98 percent of our genome with our modern ape cousins. (most recent genome analysis saying it could be closer to 99%) We split off around 200 thousand years ago from them and that 2% or less difference has brought our bipedal stance, flight, computers, the ability to plan missions to Mars, abstract art, politics and war. 2% difference...and we are the dominant species on earth, the model for what intelligence is classified as. Now Imagine 2 percent smarter than us, imagine a beings and societies that looks at us as we do apes. I think I agree with Stephen Hawking when he said finding beings out there may be like Columbus landing in the new world, but instead of us being the Indians we would be the buffalo. If you think that it is improbable there is even life elsewhere... Even if earth is one in a billion. There are a million billion earth out there. Stupid thought s that keep me up at night. #Ineedahobby
