We struggle so much at times with the constant wrestling match between our biology and our culture. So frustrating to hear so many wonderful mammas doubting themselves and their babies -- for absolutely normal biological behaviour -- simply because our society has warped expectations. It is biologically NORMAL for a new baby to: Want to breastfeed almost continuously at times, want to be held rather than put down somewhere, want to sleep in the safety of our arms and the warmth of our bodies, and to want to suckle for comfort as well as meals. Biologically, that is normal. Our culture says that infants should be scheduled, put down, taught to self-comfort (which theyre not able to do), etc. When in doubt, look to the animal kingdom. You dont see any other mammal expect their babies to be separated from mom and fed on a schedule. :-)
