We, the undersigned, members of the academic community in Bosnia and Herzegovina, believe: - that it is unimaginable (and yet possible) that we live in a country where the failure to implement a ruling of the Constitutional Court deprives our newborn citizens of their fundamental right to have their existence confirmed by a simple ID number; - that it is unimaginable (and yet possible) that we live in a country where the failure to implement a ruling of the European Court of Human Rights deprives some of our citizens of their right to be citizens in the true sense of the word; - that it is unimaginable (and yet possible) that the executive and the legislature continue to present to the citizens of this country the fact that they do not intend to do their job. We abhor any attempt of political manipulation of the protests – the sole purpose of which is that we, the citizens, invite the authorities to behave responsibly towards us. The citizens voted, it is their taxes that pay for those authorities, and they have the right to expect them to do their part of the work. The academic community is part of any society. All the demands are our demands too. We invite all faculty members (university, high school, primary school), public figures and artists in Bosnia and Herzegovina to join us in a simple request for a basic right: to be citizens of a country whose institutions do their job, for the benefit of those citizens.
