We used to say this about Joshua at his school. He was treated horribly by classmates for years, each day wiping off his bruises and putting a smile on his face to go back in...When he was diagnosed with T1D he hoped others would see his idiosyncratic behavior as part of his condition and give compassion while he learned to calm the blood sugar beast and adapt to his new...he still smiled every morning, even with his grievance log in hand.... For months we had the discussions of his autonomy of school choice. He made the choice to not return when he could no longer muster the hope and a smile. Tragic really, their loss is greater than his, but his pain was unnecessary. He only wanted to be seen as enough, as he is.... And if youve met my kid, you know his smile is contagious and his spirit is magic. Overcoming obstacles and learning to find the humor in pain is what makes a Highly Sensitive Person into a healer!
