The African American Leadership Forum successfully sabotages plans for a new $8 million Trader Joes supermarket in Portland, Oregon, then claims surprise that the grocery chain withdrew because of the controversy. The cited objection of displacement is unambiguous code that the store is not in their view a good fit for an historically black neighborhood, especially given the groups explicit demand that jobs should be reserved and guaranteed for blacks despite such racial discrimination in hiring being obviously illegal.
