We wanted to update you on what Friends for Paws has done this past year 2014 The South Madison Community Foundation & the Youth foundation awarded us grants to help us spay & neuter low income family pets & for our TNR program. The Pendleton Correction Facility also donated to our feral cat program. The Pendleton Lions club has been a big supporter of us since we started & have made donations to us & also presented Angie & myself the honor of being named Citizens of the year for 2014 also In July we were awarded Animal Rescue of the month by Animal Wellness Magazine & we were featured in their magazine. The Eagle Scouts Preston Keen headed up a project to make us feral cat houses for our cat colonies to keep the cats safe & warm. Goenpalooza has also been a huge help this past year by donating items to us. We also received 2 grants in December from the spay neuter of Indiana which is funded by the spay/neuter license plates. We are using those certificates to spay & neuter cats & dogs in the community to cut down unwanted litters. Local madison county vets accept these certificates so you can have a vet close. Use resources to get help. We were asked by SNSI who we received the grants through & the national ASPCA to go down to the state house to talk to our legislatures about how the funding has impacted our community & to let them know how much this funding is needed. Angie & I were very excited about this opportunity & we let our local legislatures know what an impact our community has made by working together. Write letters to local legislatures & let them know changes need to be made. Funding needs to be there to help those in need In the last year we spayed 4 female pit bulls in low income family homes & 15 feral cats in the town of Pendleton. Totally costing us around $700. We have also helped with veterinary bills for animals in our community. Our operation Spay & Neuter has been a success. Many animals were microchipped & have a phone call home. Communities need to work together to educate & work towards spaying & neutering & changing local ordinances. We are proud of the work we have accomplished & plan to keep working towards getting more spayed, neutered & microchipped. we also have a pet food pantry for our community to help when residents have fallen on hard times. We could always use donations towards all programs to keep them going. Thank you to everyone that has supported us.
