We went back to school shopping today. Asher complained that - TopicsExpress

We went back to school shopping today. Asher complained that nearly everything we got was for Miriam. He was unimpressed when I explained that we paid far more directly for his education than we do in taxes for Miriams. This is the first time I have purchased school supplies for one of my children and the first time from the perspective of a teacher. I was impressed, but unsurprised, by the specificity of brands for most items. (A Bic permanent marker, eh? Whats wrong with Sharpie? Another poor teacher forgot to specify which brand of dry-erase markers... I picked up Expo anyhow). I was surprised by some of the requests: two reams of white copy paper and a ream of pink copy paper? Twistable Crayola Crayons? These reminded me that even though my daughter is going to public school in NYC, it is a far cry from most public schools in the same city. However, I was very happy to recall that most of my Taiwan donors allowed me to repurpose their funds for my classroom. I wont be picking up Twistable Crayolas for my class, but I am excited to collaborate with the teachers at my site to make the most effective use of the funds. Thank you again to all who donated. I have never been this excited to return to work!
