We went to visit Dad again yesterday (we visit him on Mondays and Fridays). Wow. He was a changed man from when we last saw him (well, at least he was yesterday! It may not last, we know that). He was happy, smiling, talkative and didnt mention Elaine one single time - which is most unusual. He even told us that it is quite good in Gloucester and he is happy to be there now. Seems his friendship with Vera (one of the residents who is unfortunately confined to a wheelchair or Princess chair, and looks to be in her late 70s or early 80s) is in full swing and he sits with her most of the day, holding her hand, stroking her arm, and chatting. I think she has a little memory loss, but seems fairly with it. The staff are thrilled at his nurturing nature with Vera and happy that he seems to be settling down at last. I heard her say to Dad yesterday Dont forget to come back, as he left to have a chat with us in the garden area. He remembered that Lee was our Grandson (not our son as he has previously said! LOL), and he was so happy to see Lee again. Dad even asked us if we could take Vera with us next time we take him for a drive. We will have to check on that with the nursing staff - I think it might be a bit difficult with the problems she has. Dad has been in Gloucester Residential Care since September 12th - he has Alzheimers Dementia, and Elaine was his friend/carer for the last few years - she has yet to visit him in Gloucester, which has been making Dad very depressed and sad. This info is for my new fb friends who are unaware of that fact. Great news!!! We left there feeling happy.
