We were able to give away a few opening tickets to Rembrandt: The Late Works at the National Gallery to our British contacts. One of which was Sarah Coop, director of Artichoke: “Rembrandt: The Late Works has been in the workings for ten years. The outcome is a beautiful and unexpectedly moving show. History has it that young Rembrandt quickly raised to fame, but glory fade as Classical taste became more fashionable. His style then was perceived as too natural, rough, almost crude. As the master grew older his paintings became a closer reflection of his inner self while he kept observing the surrounding world. There are jewels in this show on loan from the finest collections from Europe and the USA, from The Syndics, a chronicle of Rembrandt’s time, to the enigmatic Conspiracy of the Batavians, the star of the show; from a tender Jewish Bride to a distraught Lucretia; and some exquisite drawings. Go and meet Rembrandt”. Rembrandt: The Late Works runs until 18 January 2015. More info: nationalgallery.org.uk/whats-on/exhibitions/rembrandt-the-late-works
