We were asked weekly, Do Thai people use chopsticks ? YES, We do. However, unlike other East Asian countries, we do use them on certain dishes.....not all. Most common dishes to use are Noodle soups....various noodle soups. We use chopsticks along with a soup spoon. For righty, chopsticks on right hand and a spoon on left hand. Chopsticks are also used for Chinese, Japanese, Korean cuisine, etc. NOW, how do Thai people eat ? We normally eat most dishes with a spoon and a fork. Our King Rama V has modernized Thai eating habit in the late nineteenth century. In the old time, everything was consumed by hand. The King traveled abroad extensively. He decided that spoon and fork would be the most practical utensils for Thai food consumption. For righty, spoon on the right hand and fork on the left hand. Fork will only be used to push food into spoon, which then goes to your mouth. If anyone need a demonstration, feel free to ask us at BUSABA. :-)
