Northwestern University’s Division of Gastroenterology and Hepatology is pleased to announce an opening for a Research-Intensive, 2 year, GI-Psychology Postdoctoral Fellow for the 2014- 2016 academic years. Northwestern University is one of the top-ranked universities in the country and combines innovative teaching and research in a highly collaborative environment. The 2-year post-doctoral fellowship is funded by a T32 awarded by the National Institutes of Health-Digestive Diseases and Kidney (NIDDK). The goal of this program is to leverage the physiology and psychology expertise within the Division and the current resources available at Northwestern University to train psychology and gastroenterology postdoctoral fellows with interest in digestive diseases for academic careers. The study of gastrointestinal disorders is complicated and requires a multidisciplinary approach that incorporates an understanding of the mechanical, physiological and inflammatory aspects of gastrointestinal tract function and the cognitive and psychosocial factors that alter symptom response. This training program will build on the successful integration of the Esophageal Center and Center for Psychosocial Research at Northwestern University and also utilize resources from current collaborations with the Center for Healthcare Studies, the Cognitive Brain Mapping Group and translational research colleagues in Allergy-Immunology and Pathology. Qualifications include a PhD in Clinical or Health Psychology from an APA approved program and training in cognitive-behavioral therapy. The applicant should have considerable predoctoral research experience, including first-author publications and be committed to a career in academic medicine. Experience in gastroenterology or chronic pain is preferable but not required. Applicants should have completed an APA approved internship in clinical or health psychology.
