We were selected as Business of the Year by Pilot Rock Chamber of Commerce! Doherty started in Pilot Rock more than 25 years ago, said presenter Sam Byrnes of Byrnes Oil, which received the award last year. “Much of the success of this business can be attributed to hard work, Irish stubbornness, credibility and the ability to look into the future and plan accordingly,” Byrnes said. He praised owner Patrick Doherty for his bent for community service, which was demonstrated when Doherty was still in high school and built a welcome sign for the town. At the end of the award ceremony, Doherty, who sings in an Irish group called Irish Country, broke out in an a capella number to the delight of the crowd, said Pilot Rock Mayor Virginia Carnes.
