We were snowed in from church yesterday so we watched Craig Groeschel’s sermon on lifechurch.tv. Craig did a sermon called “30 second Theology” where he showed several commercials that currently play on TV and then spoke biblical truths about the messages behind the commercials. One such commercial that he showed was the new Ipad Air commercial (apple/your-verse). As you watch beautiful scenes of people in marvelous settings you begin to here Robin Williams voice quoting a scene from one of my all-time favorite movies, “Dead Poet Society”. The quote goes like this: We dont read and write poetry because its cute. We read and write poetry because we are members of the human race. And the human race is filled with passion. And medicine, law, business, engineering, these are noble pursuits and necessary to sustain life. But poetry, beauty, romance, love, these are what we stay alive for. To quote from Whitman, O me! O life!... of the questions of these recurring; of the endless trains of the faithless... of cities filled with the foolish; what good amid these, O me, O life? Answer. That you are here - that life exists, and identity; that the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. That the powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse. What will your verse be? It was as though my God pressed his hand against my chest, the cage of ribs pushing past my lungs and heart into the recesses of my soul. I felt it in the ANSWER! “That you are here – that life exists, and identity; that powerful play goes on and you may contribute a verse!” • “That you are HERE” - I am amazed Lord at how you have brought me to this place in my life. I recognize that the journey has been long and I often times got lost along the way, but you have always been patient with me and you have guided me, finally, to the exact place that you want me to be. One journey is completed so that another may begin. Lord, I can’t wait to see where my “here” is tomorrow. • “That Life Exists” – Wonder filled and overflowing with elation is the life that realizes that it is profoundly alive. Breathe into me a life that exists for purpose and power that can be found only in You. • “And Identity” – That You would allow me to find who I am, In You. It is not I that live, but Christ that lives in me reminds me that I am worth something. I am not nothing, I am everything In Him who has called me to fulfill His intentions • “The powerful play goes on” – The earth is your orchestration. You have conducted masterfully the chorus of our lives. • “You may contribute a verse” – I have the lead role in the play of my life. I was born for this. I am a verse! I am a verse!
