We were up and going by 6:30 this morning, I put a roast in the crock pot and we were out the door. We arrived at the Cancer center a little before 8. I dropped Bill off at the circle drive and pulled into the parking garage. I said a quick prayer and headed up the sidewalk which leads to the Cancer center. AS Bill waited upstairs to be called to the back, David one of the Tech’s greeted Bill: “you lookin really good” Bill started to say something...... David smiled, waved his hand to stop Bill and said “will leave it at that” then leaned over a gave him a hug....... A few minutes after I arrived, Bill was called to the back. Since he is receiving a Stem cell boost, Bill was placed into a room (his immune system will be compromised) Charlotte, His RN comes in and introduces herself and starts to break down the day for us. The different kinds of chemo and how long each would take, the last chemo would take 6 hours to administrate less than a ¼ of cup of chemo. Bill and I were in for a long day. While we waited for Dr. VanRhee to give the go ahead for the Chemo since Bill’s CRP (infection count) was up. Some of the Tech’s and R.N’s stop by to say, Hi. Bill didn’t have to tell them why he had returned to UAMS. You could tell by the words of encouragement that everyone knew Bill’s Myeloma had returned. One of our favorite RN’s Stephanie popped into say “HI” (she took care of Bill the very first day we arrived in Little Rock and took care of him the first day of chemo. Bill’s passed out on her a couple of times and she ran to take care of him…… we swapped fire stories at our houses her yard caught on fire….my kitchen caught on fire, etc…...). Stephanie smiled and said “I heard you were here, I saw/heard your CRP was up, how are you feeling, are you running a temp? Bill answer her questions, as she pushed up her glasses she smiled and said “You’ll be fine, will take care of you, and get you back home” As she was talking to Bill, I felt peace fall upon me. The fact she is one of 14 R.N.’s on her shift, which she takes care eight or more patients a day, and took the time to check on Bill and give words of encouragement. Dr. VanRhee gave the go ahead for the chemo. (I’m praying he doesn’t have a cold). 10 ½ hours later, day one of four long days of chemo was completed. Later in the evening Bill shared what David had said to him earlier in the day. Bill said: “It meant a lot to me, when David said to me” “you lookin really good” “then stopped what I was saying” and said to me “Will leave it at that”. Bill said: “He was reassuring me; we got it and it will be taken care of”. After Bill shared this with me, I thought we are so blessed by the Dr’s, APN’s, R.N.’s, Tech’s. Whether they realize it or not they all have one goal. They give us Hope! They focus on the future……..returning home”.......... “Will leave it at that” “God is good and tomorrow will be a better day!” Peace and Blessings, Kim Romans 5:5 Now hope does not disappoint, because the love of God has been poured out in our hearts by the Holy Spirit who was given to us.
