We will see freezing temperatures returning for a short visit overnight on Tuesday and Wednesday in Central Maryland. For gardeners who have planted tender summer annuals already, be prepared to cover them with insulating material during this period of cold temperatures. I recommend covering them with floating row cover, a thin sheet of air-filled foam that will be light enough not to crush any tender foliage. We have it at Homestead Gardens in 40 wide, 50 long rolls. You can anchor it down with steel wire pins used for anchoring weed barrier cloth. You can also cover your plants with a double sheet of newspaper. This will be enough to keep the damaging cold air from making contact with your tender plants. Gene Sumi
