We wish to pay tribute to the life and career of soprano Lucia - TopicsExpress

We wish to pay tribute to the life and career of soprano Lucia Popp on the anniversary of her birth. Popp made her professional debut at the Bratislava Opera as the Queen of the Night in Mozarts The Magic Flute, a role she performed many times in her career. Ms. Popp performed many of opera’s great roles under the batons of von Karajan, Davis, Sawallisch, Solti, Kleiber, Bernstein and others. Among her performances with Leonard Bernstein were Fidelio, Rosenkavalier, The Creation, and extensive Mahler repertoire. Her last appearance with Bernstein was at the 1990 Prague Festival in a performance of Beethovens 9th Symphony. Here is video of Popp performing Wo die schonen Trompeten blasen from Mahlers Des Knaben Wunderhorn, with #Bernstein conducting the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra.
