We won the battle, but the war continues. At last nights 4-hour - TopicsExpress

We won the battle, but the war continues. At last nights 4-hour OUSD Board Meeting, the Trustees voted unanimously (7-0) to end negotiations with Fairfield over the proposed 99-year lease of the Peralta property. That is a tremendous victory for Save Peralta and the community. However, OUSD President Tim Surridge immediately made it clear that it is his intention to sell ALL of OUSDs surplus properties -- including Peralta. No doubt, many developers are anxious to seize upon these valuable, taxpayer-owned assets. Is it prudent for the OUSD Trustees to assume that they will NEVER need these properties for future schools? As Kathy Moffatt pointed out, when the district acquired the Silverado property in the 1940s, it was valued at just $5,000. OUSD just sold the property to the County for $2.1 million. What will the 20-acre Peralta site be worth in 50 or 75 years??? If the land is sold today, will the taxpayers ever be able to afford to buy it back?
