Quick Intro to Our #Prints (A - Z) R = Ray Richardson £525 unframed Trojan 2013 Screenprint with hand colouring Edition of 28 It felt a bit odd coming originally from a council estate upbringing in Woolwich Dockyard South East London to spending time as Artist in Residence at Eton College. So I went shedding any preconceptions about it; the place and the people there. I carried on initially with my work, but during my time there wanted to make some work that had, for me, a relevance to being there. Invited to watch a game of rugby there one Saturday I laid down behind one set of posts to watch the game (I don’t really get) and a beautiful composition opened up in front of me but I felt a like a square peg in a round hole. I decided after talking to him later that I’d put my mate ‘Irish Frank’ into this composition.Being placed in this heart of England Frank said he wanted to be in his Ireland shirt with his Irish tricolor cane that I’d painted for him a couple of years before and it all fell into place. I felt like I’d gone in the deep end but I never felt out of my depth. TROJAN. - Ray Richardson 2013
