Weather Facts: (Photos taken today) Hi. These clouds are cumulus clouds. Sometimes nicknamed cotton wool clouds. These clouds form when there is moisture in the air at higher levels. The air condendates as it rises from the ground and creates these clouds. They normaly form in rows or lines and are flat based. Some pilots call them street lines. When there is enough vertical develepment however as the ground heats up from the sun these clouds can start to rise higher. They then become cumulus congestus. These then can become rain clouds or if the air is humid and lots of upward wind shear is present they can become cumulonimbus clouds or storm clouds. Most of these clouds form over land just like today as the sea does not produce enough heat for them to form properly. If you look offshpre you can see hiw clear it is then look inland you will see them forming. If they are over the sea it will mainly be due to the wind direction blowing them offshore. Hope you found this interesting. Regards LWS..
