Weather Forecast for Kent – Friday 4th July ’14. A “col”-like set up (a “dead area” between high and low pressure systems) hangs over us, but a frontal system is expected to move in from the Atlantic in the next 24 hours. TODAY . . . Although the rest of this morning should go along on a bright note with decent sunny spells and varied cloud amounts, cloud will start to increase as we wear onto the afternoon but it is expected to stay dry and there’ll still be a few bright spells. It’ll be tending to feel muggy inland with temperatures getting up to 23 C to 25 C (73 F to 77 F) towards London way but is likely to be cooler and fresher along south-facing coastal areas at 19 C to 21 C (66 F to 70 F) as our wind continue to be a south westerly breeze. TONIGHT . . . Becoming cloudy as we go into the late evening where it’ll be thick enough to produce some rain by around midnight, then damp and cloudy with patchy rain for the rest of the night. The cloud base may be low enough to shroud high ground as hill fog by dawn break. The high humidity, general dampness and the wind being a moderate south westerly will make the minimums of 14 C to 16 C (57 F to 61 F) feel quite muggy and clammy. TOMORROW (Saturday) . . . Dull and cloudy with patchy light rain all morning and into the first half of the afternoon, it’ll also be quite foggy over the hills. Not that inspiring, to be honest, however, it should start to brighten up by late afternoon (around 4 pm) leading to a fine end to the day Temperatures close to average values at 18 C to 20 C (64 F to 68 F). The south westerly wind is expected to become quite brisk and fresh thus making it feel distinctively Autumnal in nature. SUNDAY . . . It should be a better day in terms of sunny spells but on the fresh side at 17 C to 19 C (63 F to 66 F). There is a risk of a passing shower or two in the afternoon. NEXT WEEK . . . Generally dry and settled with varied cloud amounts and bright spells as high pressure keep ridging in from the Azores. However, temperatures will always be sticking close to average or slightly above values due to winds often coming in from the north or north west. In other words, looking set to be a pleasantly quiet and useful type of week and that could last into next weekend – but am getting ahead of myself again.
