Weather Forecast for Kent – WEDNESDAY 15th October ’14. SYNOPSIS: We are under a “col”-like set up (a “No Man’s Land” area between low pressure systems), then an occluded front will move in from the Atlantic as we go into tonight. TODAY . . . Can I get lazy and just say “ditto”? Indeed, that bit of initial brightness will quickly yield to cloud cover this morning thus leading to rather dull and overcast conditions for the rest of today. The cloud base may be low enough to shroud high ground as hill fog. What with high humidity and a light southerly breeze keeping it rather damp and clammy mean it isn’t going to be a good line washing day - but great for mushroom growers. It’ll also be continuing mild for this time of year at 14 C to 15 C (57 F to 59 F). TONIGHT . . . The cloud will thicken up enough for it to start raining by evening time leading to a rather wet night involving outbreaks of rain. Often foggy over high ground due to low cloud base. It’ll also be accompanied with a freshening south-westerly breeze thus keeping it very mild with temperatures not falling any lower than 13 C (55 F). OUTLOOK . . . The cloudy and wet theme is expected to last into tomorrow (Thursday), but hopefully it may try and brighten up for a time on Friday and if it does so then temperatures could rise up to 20 C (68 F), a last final gasp of summer-like weather? However, that won’t last for too long as it’ll be cloudy and damp again on Saturday, not to mention becoming rather windy. Hopefully the sun may try and break through on Sunday thus making it a somewhat better day out of the weekend. Looking further ahead still, the first half of next week does look set to be quite mixed and unsettled as the remains of an ex-tropical system “Gonzalo” pass close by us (a bit like Bertha back in August), but there are signs of high pressure trying to build in from the south by the second half of next week. However, I’m getting well ahead of myself at this point. One thing for certain is that it is going to remain frost and ice-free for quite a while what with our winds always coming in from the south west thus keeping temperatures above average. A very maritime-type theme for a good few days.
