Weather permitting, the Missouri Department of Transportation will begin striping Interstates 70 and 44 in central Missouri next week. Striping of I-44 will start on Monday, April 28, and striping of I-70 will begin Tuesday, April 29. When approaching a striping operation, motorists will will be alerted to a slow-moving line of trucks with flashing lights, boards with flashing arrows and large signs that say Wet Paint. These striping trucks move at speeds between 8 mph and 12 mph. Because of significant differences in speed, a driver traveling at highway speeds can approach these slow-moving striping caravans much quicker than expected. MoDOT encourages motorists to use caution and slow down when coming upon these striping caravans performing this necessary work. We ask motorists to really pay attention on our interstates during our spring striping season, said Central District Engineer David Silvester. Just last week, one of our striping trains was struck from behind by a motorist. Luckily, no one was hurt, but the next time we might not be so lucky. We want everyone to go home safe. Please, use caution and slow down when you encounter our stripers.
