Weather update from EA: We are continuing to monitor river - TopicsExpress

Weather update from EA: We are continuing to monitor river levels closely. We are pleased to state that the spillways have stopped running and pumping has now started across the Somerset Levels and Moors. In detail: River Parrett Spillways on the River Parrett stopped running this morning. In agreement with Somerset Internal Drainage Board (IDB), Monks Leaze Clyce is now open. This is completely normal for the winter period. Over-topping of rivers into the moors upstream of Langport has stopped. As the Parrett spillways have stop running, and with the opening of Monks Leaze Clyce, pumps at all the Langport pumping stations, including West Sedgemoor, will start working. We have a number of pumps at each pumping station and as river levels allow we will use them. We hope to return our winter pen levels by Sunday River Tone The River Tone has high levels but these are generally receding, and Hook Bridge spillway is not running. This is completely normal for the winter period. Following our discussions with the IDB all pumping stations are set to winter levels. With the situation improving, we will not be issuing any further updates over the next few days. Planned asset repair work You may have noticed we have been out placing sandbags on the River Parrett. This is at locations where we have planned asset repair works. This is not in connection with the recent weather and should not cause concern. These sandbags are a contingency in case there is any delay in us starting work at specific defence low-spots and will ensure that all the defence levels are maintained. We have put out sandbags downstream of Northmoor Pumping Station at the Thatchers Arms and on the right bank of the Parrett between Stathe and Oath at Sedgemoor House.
