Wed night: Hello my young-uns, family, and friends. You know what today is??? Well in case you dont,, 9 years ago today Hurrucane Rite made her visit on SE Texas. Sherri Fussell made a post about it today. I had forgotten about the date for it is also my brothers Birthday. James O. Strawther Any way set me to reminising about that time and advents so got out my diary I kept during that time. I especially noted in one post I mentioned I didnt have a calender so had lost track of the days.I had stayed a week almost with granddaughter Andy, and had told them I wanted to come home. I was raised with out elec. and running water and had use an out house. I wanted to see if I could do that again. And if I couldnt I would come back. So they brought me home. We had telephone service so that was the only modern thing left. It was an experience for sure. I had a gas one burner stove. I had to pump up to burn, but it made coffee and fried bacon and eggs. The Red Cross set up at a little store about a mile down the road. Got bottle water and ice from there but had to go to First Baptist in Town for free meals. Barbara Meshell who was doing the same thing as I, came over to spend time with me and we became close friends. We took turns going for meals if we couldnt come up with a meal. One of the weird thing was we had a death or two and the funeral home had now elec. So the people were just dressed and put in coffins and taken to the cemetery and buried. They did that in my parentss day. They had to be buried soon because there was no em-balming. I remember going to one of those funerals because the person I knew really well. No flowers, just a few people. and the grave was dug among lots of blown down trees. It looked so bad it it was depressing. So I raked and stacked brush and limbs from the yard. But could not burn because we were under a burn ban, Im not going to write my whole diary here but sure give you a good feeling to get back to modern living. Remembering the good old days isnt what it is said to be. lol Even if I did do it. But I think I could do it again if need be. Took the dog to the vet and Doc Young was able to see her problem with out putting her under sadation. She has an ulcer in her eye, he thinks caused from getting something stuck in the eye. So we are to treat it for a few day with Antibotics and if it dont clear up then will sadate her and scrape it off of the coiner. Really looked like a scabbed over bump to me. Like to get this over with for she is hurting from it. But have to think he know best. That it for tonight a lot of you will be able to share this experince with me, Im sure. Remember IKE was rite behind her. Be he did more damage down in the Beaumont area. Well have a good night all with sweet dreams. Love to all Granny B.
