Wednesday, January 21-Ephesians 2: 16-17 “16 …and might reconcile us both to God in one body through the cross, thereby killing the hostility. 17 And he came and preached peace to you who were far off and peace to those who were near.” Christ’s removal of the law did not just unite believers across social barriers; it also reconciled all believers of whatever ethnic origin to God. The law was a barrier to both Jews and Gentiles in that it pointed to the inability of humanity to live according to God’s standards. This revelation (as we saw in Galatians) turned failure to observe God’s law from unintentional to known and direct rebellion. This rebellion was a barrier to a proper relationship with God. When Christ died on the cross, He set the law aside and in doing so, He not only created a new people unified across ethnic barriers but also removed the case against all humanity codified in the Mosaic Law. Christ erased the record of debt which was against all humanity through the cross creating peace between believers, who are unite with Him through faith, and God. Do you understand the gravity of your situation before salvation? Participating in rebellion against the sovereign ruler of creation made you deserving of capital punishment…death. God so loved you he lavishly offered you grace for your rebellion by sending Jesus to die in your place. Worship God today for the lavish grace of salvation.
