In front of a modest, distortion-thirsty crowd of 3,000 44 years ago, guitar titan Jimi Hendrix was moving into the third-to-last song of his brief hourlong set at Robert’s Stadium in Evansville. “OK, everybody, stand up,” Hendrix said in his monotone. “We’re going to do the old spandangle.” What’s next is perhaps the best song recorded on what is perhaps the absolute worst bootleg recording of a Hendrix concert ever.
