Wednesday Reading 🙏 1st Reading Heb 2:14-18 14.Therefore, since the children share in flesh and blood, he likewise shared in their humanity, so that through death he could destroy the one who holds the power of death (that is, the devil), 15.and set free those who were held in slavery all their lives by their fear of death. 16.For surely his concern is not for angels, but he is concerned for Abrahams descendants. 17.Therefore he had to be made like his brothers and sisters in every respect, so that he could become a merciful and faithful high priest in things relating to God, to make atonement for the sins of the people. 18.For since he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are tempted. Psalm 105:1-2,3-4, 6-7,8-9 The Lord remember his covenant forever. Gospel: Mk 1:29-39 Healings at Simons House 29.Now as soon as they left the synagogue, they entered Simon and Andrews house, with James and John. 30.Simons mother-in-law was lying down, sick with a fever, so they spoke to Jesus at once about her. 31.He came and raised her up by gently taking her hand. Then the fever left her and she began to serve them. 32.When it was evening, after sunset, they brought to him all who were sick and demon-possessed. 33.The whole town gathered by the door. 34.So he healed many who were sick with various diseases and drove out many demons. But he would not permit the demons to speak, because they knew him. Praying and Preaching 35.Then Jesus got up early in the morning when it was still very dark, departed, and went out to a deserted place, and there he spent time in prayer. 36.Simon and his companions searched for him. 37.When they found him, they said, Everyone is looking for you. 38.He replied, Let us go elsewhere, into the surrounding villages, so that I can preach there too. For that is what I came out here to do. 39.So he went into all of Galilee preaching in their synagogues and casting out demons. -When Jesus Heals, two things happen. First, the person entrust oneself or an ill person to Jesus as did Simon in our Gospel today . Then, there is the spontaneous response of the person healed,--gratitude shown though ones act of hospitality and service . Whenever Jesus heals, he sends the person from some inner condition to the outer world of relationship and service these two movements are are the healing from the healing for, since any kind of illness is debilitating . The healing Jesus bring frees us from any kind of debilitating condition that tends to limit our capacity for life. Faith and Healing are closely linked. Faith opens us up to greater possibilities--to beleive in ourselves and in God who is the giver of life. When we allow self-doubt to settle in our hearts , we put limits to our capacities and to what can God do through us. Faith teaches us to believe that we are meant for something more and Healing enables us to be and to DO SOMETHING MORE FOR GOD and for OTHERS. Amen. 🙏 God Bless us all
